Using Paving Vertically - Think Different

Having seen this beautiful picture today on Pinterest, the wall in the background makes an unusual and interesting feature. It looks very similar to the Natural Paving's quartzite paving on our website. Quartzite is often overlooked as a paving option and more typical paving slab materials such as sandstone, limestone and slate are used instead. However quartzite has a different set of qualities making it just that little bit more unusual and a real talking point.  The texture is rough to the touch and almost like wood bark in appearance. It is not overly uneven, but is not perfectly flat either. The colours range from blue grey to bronze and rustic gold colours with a sparkle of translucent quartz showing through.
Natural Paving Quartzite Paving Slabs
The paving comes in slabs / flags and blocks suitable for driveways and is a very hard stone. The paving slab sizes are also a little different from the norm, coming in widths of 250mm x 300, 450 and 595mm lengths enabling them to be laid in a staggered linear style, or why not vertically to cover an imposing wall. Priced at £42.47 per square metre including VAT and delivery, it is good value too. So if you're looking for something a bit different, why not consider quartzite as a viable contender.

Antique Style Paving - Creating an Instant Aged Appeal

stonemarket-paving-limestone-vintage-single-size-packs-c--2772-p[ekm]354x354[ekm]When designing a paved area for a period home or older style of property, it's important to consider the finish achieved with different types of paving. For example, a new sandstone or concrete paving will often appear out of character with the charm of the building and possibly even devalue your home. Many older styles of property would have had Yorkstone paved areas or sometimes clay bricks as a hard surface around the property and this appearance may be achieved using many modern paving options. A purest may still prefer to use reclaimed Yorkstone with its varying sizes and irregular thicknesses, however this can be a very expensive option with prices often in the region of £80+ per m2, so it is worth considering some of the antique styles of other stone such as sandstone and limestone.

Stonemarket Antique Sandstone PavingThese artificially aged natural stone paving slabs have been specially finished to reproduce the characteristics found in an original aged stone, such as a timeworn surface and rounded edges to the paving. In contrast to the high prices commanded of reclaimed Yorkstone, a tumbled, antique sandstone or limestone is priced around £28 +/- per m2 including vat and delivery to most of the UK. If you are used to seeing Indian sandstone with vivid colour variations, you will be pleasantly surprised to find that the antique styles of the same stone tend to be more muted and less vibrant shades to remain in keeping with older styles of home.
