Mix Pebbles in with your Paving Design

Occasionally it is lovely to break up a wide expanse of paving with pebbles. You can leave a slab out and replace with pebbles every so often to soften the paving appearance or even add low growing plants to a gap in the paving. Paving can look beautiful in your garden, however a very large area can appear 'boring' especially in winter with very little colour to add brightness to the scene. copper-slate

By adding a little foliage or contrasting pebbles every so often you can  make 'boring' into 'interesting', also by leaving a slab out here and there it makes your paving go further !           ModakRose1

If pebbles or foliage does not appeal to you think about filling the gap with matching setts, this will still break up the stony expanse of a lot of paving.

Keep Your Lawn Edge Tidy with a Cobble Sett Border

IMG_0417 IMG_0568

We all love a beautifully maintained garden, but it doesn't stay this way without blood, sweat and tears. Some of the jobs, such as trimming the edge of the lawn are time-consuming and by using an edging knife, the lawn recedes more and more, leaving a larger planting border and bare, exposed soil prone to weeds.   This work can be considerably reduced by edging the lawn with a cobble sett enabling you to mow straight over the cobble edge without the need to strim or trim the lawn edge. The added benefit is it looks attractive and matches your patio, so brings the garden styling together as one.       It's simply installed using the same techniques as laying paving slabs (with a sub-base and laid on a wet mortar bed), but remember to haunch the sides to ensure a tidy finish and to make sure there is still some earth under the grass edge.   Natural sandstone and limestone cobble setts come in either a single size - often 100 x 100mm or a mix of lengths for more of a random appearance. They are great for creating curves and demarcating the edge of a shaped lawn. Cobble setts are also perfect to adding a feature planting bed within the lawn. Why not make this your project for the weekend! Click here to take a look at our range of cobble setts

Help! How do I Choose the Best Paving for My Project?

confused So you've decided to pave an area of your garden and you thought you would have a quick look online for a few concrete slabs in a yellowy-buff colour and  a rippled finish as that's what paving is isn't it? Suddenly you were presented with lots of different colours and textures of paving made from different materials from all over the world and at an array of different prices. HEEELLLP! To make things a little easier, the helpful team at Paving Superstore have created a few pointers to lead you in the right direction:   To start with, there are usually a few criteria that you have in mind before you start. For example, this might be the price, the colour, the style or the material. We'll cover each of these off below, but to make sure we're all on the same page to begin with, go to the website   www.pavingsuperstore.co.uk

PRICE

If you are shopping for paving by price, you will be interested to know that ALL our pages of products default to show products in price order, low to high. The lowest price items will always appear first. If you just scroll down on the page you are on now, it will show all paving slabs with the lowest prices first or alternatively, you can use the menu on the lefthand side to filter down a little further.

COLOUR

If colour is the most important factor when choosing your paving, the menu on the lefthand side will be your ally as this will let you filter stone, both concrete and natural, by the predominant shades of brown and green / cream, buff and yellow / rose, peach and terracotta / white, silver, grey and black. The results will be sorted in low to high price order and will show a mixture of types of paving, but limited to the colour choice you select.

If you are looking to find a specific style of paving to suit your tastes, then select from the Style options in the lefthand margin. This will enable you to find paving styles that are Contemporary, Traditional, Mediterranean, Woodstyle or Brick. Contemporary styles tend to be smooth, sawn finishes, whereas traditional paving often has a more riven (rippled) surface texture and rustic design. Mediterranean paving styles are usually rich earthy terracotta shades and also travertine and marble finishes. Woodstyle and brick paving styles are manufactured stone products made to look either like wood or brick to introduce cottage garden charm. If you are looking specifically for cobble sett bricks, we have these in a separate place on the Garden Paving menu at the top of the screen.

MATERIAL

You may be looking for a specific type of stone such as Sandstone, Limestone or Slate and you can filter by stone type from the material menu. Alternatively you may select the Natural Stone Paving option which will show all the natural materials sorted in price order, low-high. Sometimes it's best not to limit yourself to say, manmade or concrete paving as you may be surprised that other stone types may suit your requirements better and within your price range. Be open minded!

There are lots of other menu choices that enable you to search by varying criteria such as Paving Slab Size, Surface Finish, Brand, Pack Size etc, so be sure to check the menu as this will help you decide on the best paving for your project.   If you're still undecided after looking, you can always call our friendly sales team on 08458 332 337 (or from a mobile 0333 358 3588) who will more more than happy to guide you through the different options!

Cholton Limestone - New to Paving Superstore

This new, great value natural limestone paving pack has been added to our range today. It comes in a mix of sizes covering 15.25m2 at a variable 25-35mm thickness. The pack contains the following slab sizes: 600 x 900 - 13 slabs 600 x 600 - 13 slabs 600 x 290 - 13 slabs 290 x 290 - 9 slabs

The price per square metre is £25.44 including vat & delivery.

Natural limestone paving is a good alternative to sandstone as it has a subtle colour palette with buttermilk shades of yellow and pale grey with occasional ochre tones. It works well in traditional styled gardens, especially where a cotswold colour range is desirable. It's warm, creamy colour makes you crave scones, strawberry jam and clotted cream all wrapped up with a big pot of tea! Its texture is fairly flat, but with an orange peel pitted surface, so it's ideal in seating areas where a truly riven surface such as that seen in sandstone,  would cause table and chair legs to wobble on the uneven surface. White Paving - Some of the Best

White paving stone is bang on trend this year and although the options are limited to manmade paving, the products that come in white are tastefully and exceptionally well designed and suit stylish contemporary garden designs.

Brett's Moderno paving has creamy white tones with subtle silver and gold flecks. It has a terrazzo style (polished concrete) finish and straight edges enabling the individual slabs to be laid in close proximity to each other. In true contemporary style, this paving comes in a single size of 400x400mm and is also available in contrasting charcoal grey paving. Price per metre £69.86 including VAT & delivery

Bradstone's Panache paving in white comes in two different textured finishes - ground and textured. The ground finish is smooth and polished to the touch whereas the textured has a rough finish offering slip resistant qualities. This white paving has a silver and black fleck, once again reminiscent of terrazzo paving used widely in the mediterranean. The Panache range comes in complementary colours of black, chocolate, cream, fudge and silver grey - all with the same choice of textures. Prices start from £37.16 per m2 including VAT & delivery.         If white paving is just a little too bright for your tastes, there are other light coloured paving styles that may be more to your fancy. Here are a few to whet your appetite. Alternatively to have a look at all paving options click here and then use the menu down the lefthand side to filter the results.
